M: Mary, do you have a minute? I would like to have a word with you.
W: OK. I want to talk to you, too.
M: I received your e-mail just now. You can’t imagine how surprised I was when you mentioned that you decided to leave the job.
W: Yes. I’ve made up my mind.
W: Hello, I’d like to make a reservation for two tickets to London on Friday evening.
M: OK, let me see. The 6:15, 6:45, and 8:15 trains still have seats available. Which one would you like?
W: I’ll take the 6:45 one.
W: Wow, that window is very clean.
M: Dad and I washed it before lunch. But the car is dirty and I need to help Dad clean it now.
W: OK, but have a bottle of milk first.
W: Excuse me, where is the post office?
M: It’s next door to the hotel. Go out of the door and turn right and it’s on the right in front of a park. It’s opposite the tourist information center.
W: OK. Thanks.
M: Do you talk to the boys in your class much?
W: Oh yes. The boy opposite Ann is very nice.
M: The one with green trousers?
W: Yes. He’s called Nick. He’s never angry.
M: How do you feel about the party tonight?
W: Er, I’m feeling OK.
M: Good. Is everything ready?
W: Yes, but I’m afraid that not many people will come.
M: That’s definitely not going to happen. Everyone I’ve spoken to says they’re coming.
W: Oh, good. You don’t think we’ll run out of food?
M: No, I’m sure it’ll be fine. You’ve made a lot of food and most people will probably bring something.
W: Oh, OK, that’s good. I hope everyone will relax and enjoy themselves tonight.
M: What can I do for you?
W: I was looking for a book named English for Everyone, but I couldn’t find it.
M: Did you check our database to see if it was on the shelf?
W: I already did. And I didn’t see it on the shelf.
M: Apparently somebody took that book out of the library.
W: Will you get another copy?
M: We will definitely be getting another.
W: Could you please reserve it for me?
M: That won’t be a problem.
W: Thanks. I really appreciate that.
M: It would be nice to go to the beach sometime this weekend. I’m bored with staying at home and watching a movie on TV all the time.
W: I want to go too. What’s the weather going to be like?
M: The weather forecast said it was supposed to be warm and not hot this weekend.
W: Will it be good for going to the beach? It wouldn’t be good if it got cold this weekend.
M: I want this trip to be perfect. I hope it stays warm.
W: This California weather is so uncertain. It’s impossible to know what will happen.
M: I know. Every day the weather seems different.
W: I would love it if it wasn’t always so unpredictable.
M: That would make it easier for us to make plans.
W: Hello, this is Dr. Carter’s Office.
M: Hello, I’d like to make an appointment to see Dr. Carter, please.
W: Okay. Could I have your name please?
M: Yes. My name is Ronald Schuller.
W: Okay. How about the day after tomorrow on Wednesday at 4 o’clock?
M: Uh, do you happen to have an opening in the morning? I usually pick up my kids from school on my way home from work around that time.
W: Okay. Um, how about Tuesday at 8:00 am or Thursday at 8:15 am?
M: Well, Tuesday would be fine.
W: All right. And what’s the purpose of your visit?
M: Well, to tell the truth, I fell from a ladder two days ago while painting my house, and…
W: So have you hurt your leg or arm?
M: Not exactly. Actually, there has been a pain in my ankle from that day on.
W: Well, did you put ice on it immediately after that happened?
M: Well, yeah.
W: OK, Mr. Schuller. Could I have your phone number please?
W: My name is Penny. I am fourteen years old and I come from Chicago, in the Midwest of the USA. My daily routine is like this. I get up at 7:00 in the morning on weekdays. I go to catch the bus to school at 7:30 and it takes about twenty minutes. I don’t wear a school uniform. I usually wear jeans, trainers (运动鞋) and a sweatshirt.
I have eight classes a day and the first class begins at 8:00. I don’t have enough time to go home for lunch and we are not allowed to go to restaurants or any place where we can buy hamburgers and chips outside our school. So I usually have lunch in the school dining hall with my friends.
But I prefer the weekends and holidays! I like to play basketball, video games and play with my friends. In the summer I go camping with my best friend Ryan. Camping is really cool — we do lots of different activities like fishing, horseback riding, walking in the mountains and singing around a campfire.
I really like rap music — Eminem is my favorite singer. I have a cute dog. His name is Toby.
