M: Would you like to go skiing with me? I heard the new skiing area is great. They provide free training. I think it'll suit you well.
W: That sounds pretty fun! You know, the only thing that I worry about is safety.
M: Is that the famous singer Taylor Swift? Let's get her autograph.
W: I don't think we should. She's so famous that people must be following her around all the time.Let's leave her in peace.
M: If you say so,I just wish I could take a picture with her.
M: Why did you miss the class yesterday,Janet? We were looking forward to your presentation.
W: Yesterday?I was preparing yesterday.I'm here to give the presentation today.I spent all day on Tuesday preparing it.
M: Um,Janet, today is Thursday...
W: What funny boots they are,Jim!I've never seen you in boots before.Did you get them at the new mall downtown?
M: No,Sandy.They were my grandfather's.Sometimes I wear them when I miss him.
M: I really like the kitchen area. It's very different from our old place.
W: I agree.I really like the wooden floor.Let's go and take a look at the other rooms. If those are nice,we should make an offer.
M: I am looking for books on how to start a small business, and I think these are perfect.I'm going to start my own company.
W: That sounds interesting. So,would you like to check all these out?
M: Yes,for a few days,at least.
W: No problem, then I'll just need to see your library card.
M: I'm afraid I've lost it.
W: That's all right.Could you just tell me your library account number?
M: I'm sorry.I don't remember it.
W: We can look it up for you.Just give me your username for the library website, and I'll find your account number.
M: Oh dear.I don't usually use the website...
W: We're planning a trip.Any thoughts?
M: I've always wanted to go somewhere hot like Hawaii.I'd love to just lie on the beach, have a drink and relax, although I suppose that staying in one place might get boring after a while. How about a trip through Europe?
W: To be honest,I kind of agree with you.If we were to go to the Bahamas,I wouldn't complain. But Europe sounds more attractive.
M: Well,as it happened,I spoke with a bunch of our friends last night. All of them began by saying the same things we did about beaches. In the end, everyone agreed that they'd rather have a more different experience.
W: Well,I think we have our destination. Now we just need to get our plane tickets.
M: Hold your horses. We need to calculate the cost first.
M: May I help you find something?
W: I'm not sure about this red dress.I am going to my high school reunion this summer, and I want something to make me look young and successful.
M: I think this black dress will be perfect. It's quite beautiful.
W: That is nice, but I'm afraid it's out of my price range.
M: Perhaps you'd like to try something from this corner of the store. All the dresses on this shelf are on sale.
W: Wow! Sixty percent off the original price.
M: Yes,and I think this blue dress would be perfect for your reunion.
W: I do like it.Can I buy it now and then just return it later if I don't like it?
M: I'm sorry, but I'm afraid our items that are on sale cannot be returned.
W: I think I'll just buy it anyway. If it's too small,I've still got two months to lose weight.
M: I have noticed that a lot of people around here are very healthy and hard-working.I thought all Americans just ate hamburgers and pizza and sat in front of the TV all day long.
W: Well, our society has become a lot more health-conscious than it was ten years ago.
M: I have heard a lot of people talking about organic foods, and even growing their own vegetables!
W: Yes,things are different now.I think most people have become more conscious than before, whether it is about themselves or the world. There is so much information out there.People are less ignorant than they were before.
M: More attention has been drawn to the environmental protection.
W: I agree. But there are also many problems that we still need to overcome.Let's not get into that.
M: Focus on the positive, right? So,what do you do to play your part in a healthy society?
W: I try to avoid driving my car as much as possible.
M: Good for you.I wish more people had the same attitude as you.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has encouraged schools to start their day later. They reviewed studies on teens' sleep and analyzed the harmful effects of not getting enough sleep.Young people need nine hours of sleep every night, but most high school students get far less. While it may seem that teens could simply go to bed earlier, researchers say that won't work.Teenagers are growing quickly, and this makes falling asleep earlier much more difficult.Researchers recommend schools to delay their start time until at least 8:30 am. Previous studies have shown that even this thirty-minute delay can have a great effect on a teen's health and performance.Still,it is unlikely that schools across the nation will change their hours. If your school starts early, the best thing you can do is develop habits that let you get plenty of high-quality sleep, for example establish reasonable bedtime and limit your screen time.
